JOURNEYS FOR CHANGE

CANARY WHARF, LONDON: 17th JUNE 2011 – The City Hindus Network (CHN), in partnership with State Street Corporation, one of the world’s leading providers of financial services to institutional investors, last night welcomed nearly 200 delegates to an evening reception with an esteemed panel of leading British-Asian personalities discussing cultural ethics vs. business principles and their own inspiring personal and professional motivations at the event titled ‘Journeys for Change.’

The collaboration was hosted by the Global Inclusion team at State Street in their Canary Wharf offices. The CHN is a non-profit organisation created to promote networking, education and charity amongst Hindu professionals.

The Chair, Mamta Saha of Think Spa London was accompanied by a distinguished panel Kamel Hothi, Asian Market Director Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets; Anand Shukla, Acting Chief Executive of UK childcare charity Daycare Trust; Pradeep Pursani, business director at the Shell Foundation; and Sukhi Ghuman, CEO of Octavian Security.

The guests included City professionals and leading business figures who contributed to the debate, which explored:

• Cultural ethics vs. corporate principles

• Behaviour shifts amongst generations of ‘British-Asians’

• Drivers for success and motivations for philanthropy

• Enriching pearls of wisdom

Kamel Hothi, who progressed her career from a cashier at Lloyds TSB to Asian Markets Director after successfully breaking through many gender and race-related glass ceilings, said “I’m delighted to have participated as a panellist on the Journeys for Change event. The State Street and CHN collaboration has established a platform where differing ideas, backgrounds, experiences and perspectives are welcomed, respected, and valued; last night’s event was the ideal opportunity to inform, inspire and engage with the next generation of leaders. As someone who has been involved in many seminars and events, the professionalism and passion I witnessed behind organising this panel was very impressive and I am sure is one of the main reason for its success.”

Sukhi Ghuman, Chief Executive of Octavian emphasised “I’m pleased to have participated as a panellist – Journeys for Change sparked an unprecedented enthusiasm for subsequent discussions. It’s fantastic to have inspired by appealing to noble motives and challenging the audience to achieve a higher level of achievement.”

The consistent message in the panel discussion and responses to questions from the audience was how the panellists continuously persevered to achieve their goals, and how their spiritiual philosophies helped them remain resilient in the face of obstacles.

Pauline Miller of State Street said: “We were delighted to host the City Hindus Network at our offices. State Street is committed to engagement with the communities in which we operate. This is our second collaboration with CHN.”

Bijna Dasani, patron of the State Street Global Inclusion and CHN partnership said “We are delighted to have hosted such a successful event.  The panellists share a superb palette of credentials; they’ve enriched and inspired the delegates who have been filled with a new level camaraderie and enthusiasm.”

Aekta Mahajan, a committee member for the City Hindus Network, which hosts regular networking events for Hindu professionals, said: “This workshop provided an inspiring platform to show younger professionals that, even in the current economic environment, it is possible to find a deeper meaning in life. It is possible to experience personal growth without sacrificing your passions or your spirituality.”
