Our short history so far

Activities

Our main activities span three areas.

Networking:
The power of the old boy network as a force in the City of London is diminishing, but developing the right relationships is still key to getting ahead. Just as in the past the old boy network provided a route to making contacts through a shared identity – of public school education – a new set of organisations are now forming to provide the same functions to other minority groups. For example, The City Circle provides this function for Muslims, as does the The City Women's Club for women. The establishment of the City Hindus Network creates a similar opportunity for Hindus allowing them to build on their successes.

Education:
While the City Hindus Network will try to encourage people to take an interest in finding out about Hindu philosophic thought, its educational remit will be a lot wider. It might involve organising talks, debates and question and answer sessions with Hindus who are at the top of their professional fields or setting up a mentoring scheme to aid the development of members during the course of their professional careers and of those students who might enter the City of London industries in the future.

Charity fundraising:
Our chartable activities will include identifying worthy projects that urgently need more money, and promoting the needs of these causes in our events and communication with our members. This will not only involve raising money to help peoples with large Hindu populations in the immediate aftermaths of natural disasters, for example, but might also include helping to fund projects that increase Hindu influence in the agenda setting of the UK. As one of the most successful minority communities in Britain it is surprising how little our thoughts and views are taken into account when policy decisions are made.
