In March 2011, we asked our members, for the first time, what they thought of us, by asking them to fill in a short survey to help the CHN shape its activities and events over the following months and years. The results of that survey are here. In January 2012, we asked our members again, and received a similar number of responses. The results are published below.

Key results:

  • 85% of our members work in financial services, professional services, IT, consultancy and related fields. The majority of our remaining members work in medical and related fields.
  • Most people joined the CHN because it was recommended to them by a friend, they like the philosophy of being part of a Hindu professionals network, as well as the social aspect of meeting other like-minded people
  • 70% of respondents rated their experiences with the CHN “Good” or “Excellent”. The main comments were:
    • “would like to see more information social events for members to interact”
    • “would like to see a more proactive annual programme of activities that relates to organisation’s objectives”
    • “the talks have been interesting and thought provoking”
    • “I posted an item on Suicide; something that is important to our communities. no response !!!. Who should be dealing with these and other health and social issues [sic]“
  • Out of six areas of Networking events, Education events, Charity and volunteering, Mentoring, Community outreach and consultation and Social media, members thought, on a scale of 1-4 (1 being “Poor” and 4 “Excellent”):
    • We performed most poorly on Social media – 70% rated our experiences at 2 or 3 and Charity, where most people did not know what we did
    • 60% did not know or had no comment about our Mentoring work
    • Of those who responded, 80% thought our Networking events were at 1 or 2
  • The majority of you (around 65%) would like us to concentrate on networking events, talks on Hindu philosophy and informal social events.
    • Several of you suggested we create a matrimonial introductions service
    • Some others suggested we should move into a more “religious/spiritual orientation” than currently
  • Nearly 85% of respondents through the CHN was “definitely” or “probably” a valuable network.
    • One comment said we “should also be helping those who need help”
  • In other comments, “this group has tremendous potential in terms of developing a vision for a more ‘joined up’ and cohesive hindu community in London”
Many thanks for your responses. Unfortunately, several of the comments received specifically asked us to follow up comments with the respondents – this was an anonymous survey, and without more detailed contact or information or context to the comments, it is not possible for us to follow up.
